Fashion Photography

Photography was developed in 1830. In 1856 Adoplhe Braun published a book with 288 photographs of a Countess de Castiglone making her the first ever fashion model. Fashion photography made it's first appearance in the 20th centuary, in French magazines sucha as La Mode Pratique. Vogue and Harper's Bazaar were then the two leaders in the genre throughout the 1920s and 1930s, until Edward Steichn, George Hoyningen-Huen, Horst P. Horst and Cecil Beaton transformed the genre into an outstanding form of art.

Today the most famous fashion photographers are; Mario Testino, Steven Meisel and Patrick Demarchelier.

Mario Testino

i love the expression on her face, and the way her hair is all over the place. The white dress on a purple background makes for a great contrast and that fact that she doesn't look frozen still (which isn't always a bad thing though) makes this photo great!

the darkness to this picture is great, the mystyriouse fashion model walking down the sidewalk with a knife in her hand looking extreamly good and walking like nothing ever happened really make me stop and look at this photo over and over again trying to figure out what exactly it is that she's done. the b/w contrast is amazing and i really enjoy the way they played around with this photo.

Patrick Demarchelier
i really like the colors to this picture, i'm not entirely sure on how to explain them or say what i feel about them but it just adds to the sadness of the photo. i like how shes looking down into the fridge and the angle he shot it at. everything here just works in a way i'm not sure how to describe!

So this is possibly one of the best photography websites I have ever found.

http://staticphotography.com

Why you ask.. well static photography is all about the Vancouver fashion scene and portrait photography, and if any of you have been fallowing my blog at all then you'll know that fashion is the industry that I want to be in. Now not that it's the Vancouver scene specifically that I want to be involved in, but these guys are pretty darn amazing at what they do and their website shows their work and love for the art.

Our second assignment for Industry Studies class was lines. I had more trouble with this shoot then I thought I would. It's not that I couldn't find lines to caputre, but I was second guessing everything before I was about to take the photo(even though I know that's the last thing I should of been doing) and I was feeling very well at all. I didn't get much and I got pretty frustrated, but I'm somewhat happy with what I did get.

What attracted me to photography..

I remember this one Winnipeg Bomber game that my mom took me and my sister to when I was around 15, we were sitting in the v.i.p section because at that point my step dad was mascoting as Buzz, and my mom handed over her camera to me and told me to take a picture of her and my little sister sitting on the bench, shaking and not sure how to use this high tech (at the time) camera, my mom told me "just point and shoot." All I can say is that picture came out better then any picture my mom took with that camera. So I guess you can say the interest started there at the back of my mind. But I never really got into photography until high school, in grade 10 and 11 I took yearbook as an option to keep me involved in the school a little bit more. After that I just fell in love with the art. I volunteered with the Winnipeg Free Press student website Extra, and worked with them all of my last year in high school, it was an amazing experience even only using my very little digital camera. Two Christmas's ago my parents went out and bought me a Canon Digital SLR Film camera and told me that I will do wonderful things, ever since that day I can proudly say I am a complete and total shutterbug!! My camera is always within arms reach and my friends know that when it's in my hand I'm in my own little world!

I'm hoping by the end of PrairieViews diploma course i'll have learned everything that I do not know and should know about photography; all the functions on my camera, how to use lighting, even how to pose people properly to get everyone in a photo would be amazing. Anything that the teachers have to teach me I want to and hope to learn!

If I could go back in time the one person I would love to meet would be my Uncle Darren. Okay well it's not that I haven't mett him before but I was 2 or 3 when he passed away and I feel like there is part of me missing. My Uncle Darren was my mom's twin, and all my family keeps telling me when I ask, is how strong of a bond, myself at 2 and him had before he was killed. They said I wouldn't sleep and I wouldn't eat. It was obvious that even at two that man had an imapct on my life. I don't want to go into complete detail about what happend but what I can say is that the love of a family can be something amazing.
My Unlce risked his life and lost it for his little brother..

As a photographer my main subject interest is nature. I find the world a beautiful place and want to show it to people the way that I see it. I also shoot my friends enjoying their sports, I have friends who are into motocross and snowboarding(as well as many others) and watching them take jumps, do tricks and capture them in their moment of glory is a great feeling.

My career goal is to one day get involved in the fashion industry and work for a major magazine in New York, a dream that will one day hopefully come true!
