Long Time No Blog

So it's been a while since I've blogged so I figured I'd make an update with a few self portraits. Hard stuff to do being as self concious as Iam about everything about me, but I pulled myself together and with some help from a few loved ones I came up with something up to my standards anyway!

It's all a question of identity

while holding onto the past

and trying to look forward to the future

being uncertain of who Iam.
The truth comes out.

Working with light

Monday, November 3, 2008 1 comments
Besides fighting off a cold this weekend and the crazzyness of Halloween, the working with light assignment for Industry Studies was alot of fun. I've found a new love for simple photography something I thought I had trouble with before! The light coming from my window seemed just perfect for taking these pictures!

So something tells me simple photographs will be seen quite a bit in my work for the next little while!!

Black and White

Pretty pleased to say that all my worries about my portraits not turning out have completely gone. They turned out better then anticipated. Alex and Kevin did such a great job and i got exactly if not more then what I wanted out of them. I believe I can safely say i captured that 'badass' look -

But I think I might have a problem knowing that they were supposed to be of one person, but to pull off the I guess 'mood' I wanted in these, i needed two poeple, and I think I did, I just hope that I wont be penalized for it..

Portraits

So I went out and did my portraits this evening, and I was so discouraged because my models seemed to not be able to do it when I wanted to and thought was best to do, leading to me having to change my idea completely. So 11 oclock at night and we're finally getting ready to leave to get these done, very certain they wern't going to turn out at all and I would have nothing to show for class on friday, when suddenly things changed for the better.. or well it seems to have .. We decided on going to the forks at the skatepark to see what we could come up with, so I brought my digital camera with me as well as my film and took a few just to see how my lighting was before I started shooting with my film, hoping that this is going to help me in anyway. Well my digital images turned out great and I had so much fun shooting them, I guess it does help that my models were so cooperative. So I just had fun with it, takeing things as they came..

Here's some of the digital photos that were taken(i have still yet to get the roll developped and am very excited to see how they turn out!)

So I really wish that I could work up the courage to go out and shoot the downtown "ghetto" area. While I was out doing my zoom burst assignment of graffiti, we happened to come upon this area behind the graffiti galary that look as if it were a gang hang out, it was so interesting and I would loved to have stayed there and taken more then the five or six pictures that I did, but all I kept thinking about was the camera in my hand(that's basically worth more then my life right now) , and someone finding me here and not being happy about it, so I left in a rush promising myslef I'd be back.. I hope..

heres what i took anyway ;

Fashion Photography

Photography was developed in 1830. In 1856 Adoplhe Braun published a book with 288 photographs of a Countess de Castiglone making her the first ever fashion model. Fashion photography made it's first appearance in the 20th centuary, in French magazines sucha as La Mode Pratique. Vogue and Harper's Bazaar were then the two leaders in the genre throughout the 1920s and 1930s, until Edward Steichn, George Hoyningen-Huen, Horst P. Horst and Cecil Beaton transformed the genre into an outstanding form of art.

Today the most famous fashion photographers are; Mario Testino, Steven Meisel and Patrick Demarchelier.

Mario Testino

i love the expression on her face, and the way her hair is all over the place. The white dress on a purple background makes for a great contrast and that fact that she doesn't look frozen still (which isn't always a bad thing though) makes this photo great!

the darkness to this picture is great, the mystyriouse fashion model walking down the sidewalk with a knife in her hand looking extreamly good and walking like nothing ever happened really make me stop and look at this photo over and over again trying to figure out what exactly it is that she's done. the b/w contrast is amazing and i really enjoy the way they played around with this photo.

Patrick Demarchelier
i really like the colors to this picture, i'm not entirely sure on how to explain them or say what i feel about them but it just adds to the sadness of the photo. i like how shes looking down into the fridge and the angle he shot it at. everything here just works in a way i'm not sure how to describe!
